Units of Alcohol in Current Practice

1 unit of alcohol = 10ml of pure alcohol


WINE (white, red or rosé)
                  
1 medium (175ml) glass (12-14% alcohol) = 2.3 units

1 large (250ml) glass of wine = 3.3 units

 

BEER OR CIDER
 
1 pint of Stella Artois (premium strength) = 3 units
1 pint of Becks or Fosters (average strength) = 2.8 units
1 can   440ml of lager (9% alcohol) = 4 units
1 Stout (Guinness or Murphy’s) = 2.3 units

 

SPIRITS (vodka, gin, whisky)
          
35 ml EU standard measure (40% alcohol) = 1.5 units

 

ALCOPOPS
 
200ml bottle (13.5% alcohol) = 2.7 units

 

Recommended weekly allowance

A woman should not exceed 14 units of alcohol per week.

A man should not exceed 21 units of alcohol per week.


1 ml (1g) of alcohol = 7 Kcal 

just a little less than 1g of fat (=9Kcal)
